Catching up with friends is always fun and why not do it after work. I prefer happy hour for the food and not so much the alcohol, eating my calories is more my speed. When my friend suggested La Sandia (a Richard Sandoval Restaurant), I was not familiar with it. While I love my old faithful “go- to” places I love trying new experiences.
La Sandia is an authentic Mexican Restaurant located at Tysons Corner Center in Virgina inside the Mall, next to the two level Barnes and Nobles bookstore. Sidebar: I stopped by and realized I forgot how much fun it was to be in a physical bookstore, mental note to stop by more often. …back to La Sandia.
Let me start by saying that the service was superb! When I walked towards the restaurant (with my hands full from my Barnes and Noble stop hehe) I was greeted warmly by the Manager on Duty and the Hostess, they directed me to the bar for happy hour where my server immediately brought out water, some very delicious salsa and warm freshly made chips. If I weren’t watching my carbs I would have eaten the entire basket I think, they were that good. We ordered a side of plantains and the Braised Beef Sope Sliders and the Cantina Nachos. We were extremely happy about the selections. The plantains were sweet (a tinsy bit dry) but good overall and although I wish there was a different dressing for the Beef Sope it was very tasty. The nachos were filling
The decor was very warm and welcoming and had that “old friend” feel with homey decorations. I enjoyed the authentic Mexican figurines and the lighted bar table. The main dining area had plenty of space and is large enough to accommodate large parties. Although there wasn’t a wait when we were there reservations are available as well.
Overall, I would recommend and I’m looking forward to going back and trying one of their delicious smelling fajitas one of their popular menu items. The service alone would have me coming back, our server was awesome, attentive and polite. Where is your favorite Mexican spot to indulge? Comment below!
