Unboxing: April Sephora Play!

Greetings Rubies!

Another month another unboxing! If you’re new to the blog, welcome. Sephora Play! is a monthly subscription service that ships deluxe beauty product samples straight to your door once a month. It’s a great way to be introduced to new beauty brands and products.

My husband got a chuckle when he saw last month’s bag. The theme for April was The Best Things in Life are Me! Hunny, I couldnt agree more. Self-love is wholly important and you know what? There is nothing wrong with taking time for yourself so you can be the best Ruby you can be and introduce the world to your best self!

The content of this months box was quite nice, I was very pleased! I was familiar with a few products already like the waterproof eye makeup remover and Smashbox Photo Finish primer (both get 4/5 rubies from me!) and the other contents were new to me but I was excited to try! Let take a look, shall we?!

First up is Make Up Forever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner. This particular eyeliner is a collaboration between MAKE UP FOR EVER and pop star Charli XCX. I’m not familiar with all of her music but this line expands to other bright and vibrant waterproof eye colors. This is a very popular trend right now and with spring here and summer around the corner, it’s a great time experiment and have some fun. I received this pencil in the color black and it boasts that it is a ” superior, long-lasting formula will not smudge, crease, or fade until you remove it”.

Now I did try it and it’s almost true. It did not fade throughout the day or crease and it glides on very easily. It did, however, smudge a little bit… Not as much as some of the other many brands of eyeliner I have I have used in the past and even keep in my makeup drawer.

The formula is super creamy, very rich and easy to maneuver. I can definitely see myself pairing this with a smokey eye for date night. I rate this 3/5 rubies. It retails for $21.00.

With Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover it really speaks for itself. It is solely an eye makeup remover. Shake it and dab it on your cotton pad. It works well for sensitive eyes and for rubies who wear contant lenses. It’s been specially tested by the ophthalmologist. Additionally, HydroSenn+ is a Sephora exclusive plant based ingredient that helps the skin around your eyes feel soft and smooth.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare is a brand I’m not familiar with however there are a lot of reviews for the Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel on the Sephora website, most of them are 4 stars and above. Many of them raving about the product and the noticeable difference after a few doses.

The directions for the peel are pretty simple, massage the treatment pad onto clean and dry skin before bed. Recommended usage is 2-3 times per week. The pad is filled with one clinical dose of retinol, which helps with skin rejuvenation and firming and reducing wrinkles. When I first opened the package a distinct smell was present, not all that pleasant but I don’t know what it’s suppose to smell like either :). There was enough product for me to apply to my entire face and neck. I could feel it working a soon as I dabbed my face. It felt a bit tacky on my skin as I went to bed, but in the morning my skin felt noticeably different. I could tell that the concentrated retinol did help my skin feel smoother and firmer. This is a beauty item I would definitely splurge on!

Reminder: when using any peel, chemical or otherwise, do make sure you use sunscreen, as your face can become more sensitive to sunlight after a peel. I broke out my facial SPF 35 after using my first treatment.

I give it 5/5 rubies! It retails for $88.00, sorry rubies it is currently out of stock.

This pro-strength ferulic and retinol peel rapidly retextures the appearance of skin and supports natural repair for your best complexion ever, while a replenishing moisture complex keeps skin in perfect balance. It reduces the look of wrinkles, and restores the feel of firmness so you can wake up to a remarkably smoother, firmer, and radiant complexion.

I was absolutely ecstatic to see this Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask ($62.00) in my bag.  If you remember the Fresh Rose Mask review from a few months back you’ll understand why.

This one did not disappoint!! It smells amazing!!  There is a concentrated blend of citrus fruit to help your skin glow radiantly.  The results are still great. This face mask is gentle enough for everyday use for normal, oily, combination, dry, sensitive skin types. The instructions are the same, use on freshly washed skin, wait for 10- 15 minutes and then ta-da smooth, glowing radiant skin. I really enjoy it!! (5/5 rubies)

Next, we have the PINROSE Secret Genius Parfum which retails for $65.00. At first scent, this is a very warm and delicate. Vanilla is a very prominent note, which I, in particular, am not a fan of. It does smell very nice for the Ruby who prefers a subtle yet feminine fragnance.

It’s not a strong or overpowering scent. Pinrose has a series of other scents that you can mix and match to change up the scent and have some fun with. They all have great names too. The other scent I really like from the Pinrose fragrance brand is Wild Child, it’s a floral scent with a jasmine and citrus notes.

The fragrance family for Secret Genius is warm and spicy and key notes are vanilla and caramel.

Finally, we a product I am familiar with, the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36). I’ ve purchased it in the past and really liked the results. This primer really does help prepare your face for your foundation. It provides a smooth surface and helps your foundation last longer throughout the day.

Smashbox foundation primer is great for all skin types (normal, oily, combination, dry, sensitive) the key words I always look for on many of my facial products is oil free, and this is. It’s also a great pore minimizer and fills in fine lines. Throw your blotting sheet in your purse because you may need to dab your face once or twice.

Overall, I really enjoyed April’s Sephora Play box! What do you think? Did you have any boxes that you subscribe to that you’ve been enjoying? I’d love to know which ones, comment below. Don’t forget to follow along on Facebook and Instagram!
