Congratulations to Kara McCullough, who was crowned Miss USA 2017 on Mother’s Day Sunday May 14, 2017! She will go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe competition early next year. What an awesome Mother’s Day gift for her mama.
I had the pleasure of watching Kara compete for and go on to win (of course!) the Miss DC USA 2017 title back in December. Kara is a scientist for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, MD. She has a community outreach program called Science Exploration for Kids where she shows children just how fun and easy the science, technology, engineering and mathematics can be!
Deshauna Barber, outgoing Miss USA 2106, crowned Kara and rocked her Afro in honor of her mother who passed away shortly after she won the crown. What an awesome way to pay tribute to her mother.
On Sunday history was made, with two woman representing Washington, DC in the Miss USA pageant being crowned back to back. This is the first time since 1989 that a state/ territory has won the Miss USA title back to back. This is a first ever for the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia has won the crown 4 times total since the pageant’s inception.
We are wishing Kara all the best on her new journey as Miss USA 2017!
