Girl’s night out at Blue Mercury

Hey Rubies!

Finally, spring is here, summer is right around the corner, and the weather is finally catching up! One of my good friends called me up, knowing I love all things beauty and asked if I wanted to attend an event at Blue Mercury in DC  with her. I had two responses for her, sure (let me make sure my three-year-old mini is all set after school) and what exactly is Blue Mercury? I had never heard of the beauty retail chain.

Blue Mercury has been around for 18 years and was founded by Barry and Marla Beck. They opened the first Blue Mercury in Georgetown (a popular DC Neighborhood) in 1999. There are over 120 stores nationwide. I equate Blue Mercury to a high-end Sephora. There are several brands and to chose from and try and helpful associates to assist.

Ladie’s Night Out was an opportunity to play in makeup (one of my favorite pastimes!) network and just have a good time with your friends. Their high-end brand selection is vast.

I was familiar with some of the brands such as Nars, Laura Mercier, GlamGlow, Kevin Aucoin to name a few and it was fun to be introduced to new brands such as La Mer, Darphin.

Darphin is a brand made in Paris that has been around for over 140 years. There are oils that actually detox your skin to get the impurities out and stay out. Each scent is associated with an area of concern. The Darphin beauty associate was very nice so I was willing to play a game. Smell the oils and pick two that you gravitate towards.

I chose the orange blossom. I learned later on the smell you chose is associated with your area of concern. My area of concern was uneven skin tone and dark spots. Well, it turns out that orange blossom helps with that. That was pretty interesting and amazing.

La Mer was developed forty years ago by Dr. Max Huber. He was an aerospace physicist that suffered scars after an experiment went left. He began researching a treatment for his scars and boom La Mer was formed. The main ingredient in La Mer products is sea kelp.

My friend Aliya received a mini facial from a La Mer beauty professional. I tested a few of the products as well and was quite impressed by the formulas.

La Mer would definitely be a splurge for this beauty lover on a budget. A single moisturizer ranges from 1.0 oz at $89.00 to 16.5 oz for $2060.

La Mer is a brand used by Jennifer Lopez and other celebrities, and I must admit, who doesn’t want glowing dewy skin like Jennifer Lopez?

Girls Night was also an Open House for their newly opened Spa. Blue Mercury is the only spa right now to offer vitamin oxygen blast (which I hope to try soon!).

Overall, it was a great night of fun, laughter, and networking,  I will definitely be going back to get a facial for sure! My sundress from old navy was comfy and fitting for an evening hanging with the girls paired with comfy wedges and matching quilted purse.
