I know it has been a while, I’ve tried to write this post several times and each time I couldn’t finish and then more time passed. There have been some very positive life changes that caused me to really review my priorities and face the reality that I can not do every thing. While I’ve graciously received the title of Wonder Woman, from my soon-to-be- five year old Queen-in-training. I am in fact not Wonder Woman and balancing several roles this year has been rewarding and also a challenge.
Before I type any further I want to say thank you to those who have hung in there with me and sent me emails and messages and words of encouragement during this unplanned hiatus. Wow, that really touched my heart and while I was away I knew that I was not going to stay away. This hiatus was necessary and temporary.
I’ll take a moment to reintroduce my self to our newer Rubies and say welcome back to my #dayone Rubies! Why Rubies? (I lovingly call our little community Rubies) because contrary to popular belief while the diamond may get all the attention and accolades for it’s beauty, clarity and glamour; rightfully so. Rubies are considered the “Queen of all the stones and the stone of Kings” they are a gemstone of quality, they are rare, majestic and highly valued. Qualities I KNOW we all share! Proverbs 3:15, “She is more precious than Rubies, nothing you desire can compare with her👑…” (hence the site name) that too is true, no one compares to you!
So back to the intro! I am a proud mommie, wifey, soror and child of God. I am a lover of all things fashion, beauty and empowering my community🤗. For some reason, to my husband’s chagrin, I find myself gravitating towards leopard print, pink, sparkles and pearls.
Where have I been?
Now that is a tough question to answer, so much has happened. So I’ll share the abridged version right now and share more later. I started a new job, standing up a brand new program and as you can imagine that required a lot of my time. I found myself physically and mentally exhausted at the end of each day. Of course, being a wife and mother, I pushed through enough to make sure my family had my attention, but that left room for little else some days.
I accepted the role of Auxiliary Leader for the Divinely Inspired Victorious and Serving (or DIVAS as we lovely call ourselves) at my church. We’ve been planning events and fundraisers throughout the year. Most recently we planned and coordinated the first DIVA Empowerment Summit. It was an afternoon filled with fun and life enrichment workshops. Topics included:”Speaking with confidence”, “Resume writing 101: Creating lasting first impressions”, “Building fiscal strength and wealth”, and community and civic engagement.
Additionally, I was invited to join the First African American Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., an invitation I accepted with all of the privileges as well as the responsibilities to make a positive impact on my community.
So, in short as you can imagine, there has been alot of changes all at once and I had to take a moment to balance it all and plant my feet on solid ground. I think I have done that, and I am feeling less overwhelmed and more equipped to handle what’s ahead.
What’s next for me is getting back in touch with my Rubies, sharing product reviews/ hauls/ try- ons, more outfit of the days and other tidbits that you might find fun and helpful. I learned some lessons along the way and did some much needed self- evaluation and made adjustments accordingly. As well as learning not to feel guilty for putting myself first and making sure that I am okay and happy with all of my decisions. Here’s to a season of glowing and growing as we navigate this thing called life!
