Try on and Review: MAC Aaliyah Collection

Greetings Rubies!
I hope you had a great Christmas! Mine was a wonderful day spent with family. This year my husband and I decided to keep gifting to a minimum and focus more on being in the moment and spending time with our daughter.

A few weeks ago while I was perusing my email inbox ducking and dodging coupons for sales from some of my fav shopping places LOL (which were quite enticing) I  came across one from MAC and had to open it. When I read about the Aaliyah collection at MAC Cosmetics, I knew I wanted to get my hands on some! I finally did and I wanted to share my review and try-on with you all especially since the collection is on sale now.

If your not familiar with who Aaliyah is, she was an International R&B Songstress who was taken from this world too soon after her plane crashed while she was traveling back to the states after a video shoot abroad. She was an actress and model with talent that transcended internationally and across cultures. She had several musical hits, some of my favorite songs are, “One in a Million”, “Four Page Letter”, “Are You That Somebody” and “You are Love.

She is very much missed. My heart was elated to hear that her family collaborated with MAC Cosmetics to share this collection that was inspired by her music and fashion.

Aaliyah Collection Lippies, three lipsticks and a gloss 🙂

I stay true to myself and my style, and I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original. – Aaliyah

Close up of all three shades, (Left to right) “More than a woman”, “Street thing”,”Try Again”
Noonetocompare "Try Again"
Shade: “Try Again” I added a brown lip liner with this because it didn’t look right on my complexion without one. Other wise this is a great for a subtle natural look.
“Street Thing” Is for the fun loving girl. This is not a shade I would gravitate towards at first but I love it!

You have to love what you do to want to do it everyday.- Aaliyah

You may not be able to see it in the photo but there is a little glitter on this shade, the texture to me is semi gloss, it is not drying like some of the other darker shades I’ve tried so that was a plus. Also I like that it’s a bold shade that’s also feminine, fun and little flirty. I’d wear this going out to brunch with my friends or to the movies with my boo dip.
Now this is one might be my favorite of all three lipsticks. “More than a woman” can be dressed up and dressed down. She is also a semi-gloss texture and slides on quite smooth and is moisturizing.
On to the eye shadow palette, I was looking forward to giving it try as you can tell.

Keep working hard and you can get anything that you want.- Aaliyah

Well this could be both a pro and a con, the Palette is compact. It looks larger online and compared to some of the other palettes MAC has, one might be expecting more. This size was fine with me.
The quality of the actual eye shadow shades was where I was concerned, some were super pretty while others were not as smooth and didn’t apply very well.

I am glad that this collaboration happened. There are a few items in the collection that I wasn’t able to get my hands on, a few lip liners and a bronzer which did not complement my skin tone well, mainly because I couldn’t tell that I had any on :D. Apparently the collection came out earlier this year, I think it may have faired well being released in the fall/ winter because the shades don’t really give me spring/ summer tease.  For the holiday’s my go to was “more than a woman” and I will be getting myself all the way together with “street thing” I have some plans for her (I’ll show ya’ll how it goes). Overall, I really enjoy the MAC Aaliyah Collection and I was elated to hear about the collaboration, I hope there are more in future.

I want people to remember me as a full on entertainer and a good person.- Aaliyah
