Hey Hey Ruby Beauties!
If you’ve been following the blog from the beginning you know that I am a former Sephora Play beauty box subscriber. I decided to end my subscription because at times the products were getting repetitive and didn’t always match what I was looking for. For a moment I was a little jaded but now I am back on the saddle and ready to try another beauty box. Currently the only other box I am subscribed to the Ivy Box, the subscription box of my sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha. I debated which beauty box I wanted to try, since there are so many subscription boxes to chose from, and as you guessed from the title of this post, drum roll please… I went ahead and decided to try BoxyCharm!
If your not familiar with BoxyCharm (as I wasn’t) to get started your asked to complete your beauty profile, answering several beauty questions (14 to be exact) ranging from what color are your eyes to how often do you wear make-up and what beauty brands do you like; the questions even delve deeper into what lip shades do you prefer, palette preferences etc., the beauty quiz was actually very thorough.
I signed up late March and received my first box in April. If you aren’t a big fan of surprises or if it doesn’t bother you to know what products you’ll be receiving you can actually login to your account and see which products are on their way to you home.
I did (because I don’t mind) and I was so disappointed; the April theme from the website is: “VIBING WITH BOXY”. Sadly, I only received 2 items from the April box that was shown on the website :(. I didn’t even get a cute little themed description card.
As you can see the simple black card didn’t have a theme…that to me is part of the fun. I get it, there are probably a lot of leftover products from previous months and this is an opportunity to get rid of them. Personally, I’d rather jump right in with everyone else because while the box seemed cohesive I could tell it was for another season. Not only that I hope next month I’ll be back on track with what everyone else is receiving or I may have to rethink my subscription already LOL.
Now, moving on to the contents of the box!!
Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Palette $35 and Luxie Beauty Luminous Eye set $21
This is my introduction to a new brand, as I’m not familiar with them. I went to the site to look around and do some research and found that they are cruelty, gluten, paraben, fragrance and sulfate free. The Nightingale is their smokey eye-shadow palette. Which is cute, because they have a birdie theme and this falls right in line with it. It has “12 long-wearing and highly pigmented, smoky eye-shadows”.
The con is not really one for the brand but for BoxyCharm because, I must admit while this palette is nice, I was disappointed because, the PUR Festival Palette on the site was really what I was looking forward to receiving, the brighter more fun palette is right on time for summer. The brush set was also different then shown for April, the gold glitter seemed more on par for a holiday theme. I truly believe I may have gotten a bits and pieced of boxes from previous months, and from researching past boxes I think this was from a 2018 box.
The brushes seem good for good for hooded eyes and a small lid area. I received a mini flat angled brush, mini tapered, mini angled and mini round brush. I am happy to give them a try.
Bang Beauty eyeliner $22
So this is labeled as the triple threat, it can be used as an eyeliner, eye shadow primer or eye brow filler. I will give it a try as all three and report back! It actually goes perfect with the smokey eye palette I received.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Face mask $22
This was actually in the January 2019 box, and it’s a luxury brand I am very excited to try. I’ll come back with a full review once I’ve had a chance to give it a complete try.
Until then here is a description from the BoxyCharm site: “Nourish skin from within using this lightweight blend of rice germ oil, vitamin E, essential fatty acids and highly concentrated botanical oils and extracts”. This sounds like a very hydrating and moisturizing mask. With my combination skin I wouldn’t use this before putting on make-up (although it says its safe to do so.) I’d use it on a day when I wasn’t going to apply make-up right away or I’d use it just before bed so I could get the full and complete benefit. I can’t wait to give it a try and share my complete thoughts with you all.

So to wrap up this unboxing, what I liked this month is the introduction to Pretty Vulgar, Bang beauty and to Tachta. The brushes IMO were not that great a quality, although they look very pretty. One of the reasons I chose this beauty box was because it boasts that for $22 a month you get 5 full size products totally no less than $100. The total amount of everything curated for this month was $122 so that promise was kept. I do hope next month will be much better and I’ll get more of the products specified for the month.
Are you a BoxyCharm subscriber? Are you happy with what you received this month?
.
This box looks awesome. Lot of products that I would love to try.
You got some great stuff! I always love unboxing–it’s like Christmas morning! My daughter would be all about a beauty box.
Yes Amber, that Christmas feeling is a big part of the fun!

Hey Erin, this is my first box and so far I am loving it 🙂
I’ve heard a little bit about boxycharm and it always seems like an interesting box to get hold of. I am loving the item that have come in yours I wouldn’t mind trying those face masks for sure!
Hey Sarah! I tried one of the face masks and it really is truly hydrating! My face felt soo soft afterwards. Thank you for stopping by 🙂
I always find it fun to try new make up for the first time! Maybe it’s because I have this weird false hope that it’s going to make me look like a super model, hahahahaha!
Hahaha that may be it GiGi, I feel that way when I get my lipstick on just right 🙂
wow! what a great collection of product this has! i love the eye palette, the colors are just so pretty!
Thank you! And the eye-shadows are very creamy and easy to use on the eye.
That’s such a fun box. Those products look amazing!
I’ve never heard of this beauty brand product but it sounds like a great product I will check this out thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I hope you are able to check it out!
I’ve never heard of BoxyCharm but that’s because I’m not so big on beauty products. I can’t deny, however, how wonderful it feels to receive goodies that you enjoy.
Wendy, yes its nice to get a surprise of beauty goodies 🙂
I love that subscription boxes are a thing. I have like 20 on my christmas list lol
Yes, there are so many to chose from these days!
Love a good subscription box! That box has some really lovely things.
I’ve been enjoying it so far, thanks for stopping !
I think this is a great way to have the opportunity to try new products and brands. Sometimes even stuff that we otherwise would never buy. Last but not least, you can have presents handy for your girlfrinds, coworkers and so on…
You are so right! that is one of the reasons why I chose this box. Any products that I can not use for myself I am so happy to pass on to one of my girlfriends or someone else who can use it 😀
I love that the products you got were cruelty free. That’s an important aspect to me when I support or purchase a brand.
I agree Alexandra crulty free brands is something I am becoming more aware of these days.
I love subscription boxes, it’s like receiving a Christmas present every month!
All of these items look amazing! The brushes and lip gloss really caught my eye. I’ll have to look into Boxycharm. Thanks for sharing!
